Weabonga was settled in 1891 and is a former gold mining town. In its day it had a population of around 1,500 people with three pubs, two wine shops, two schools, various shops, a cordial factory and a bustling community all in search of the elusive nugget of gold to bring them untold wealth. Sadly, when the gold rush ended the population also dwindled and it now has around 7 residents in the village plus the surrounding farms.
